Taguig’s decision to include the former Makati barangays in its program showcases the power of inclusivity — something the Makati City LGU can learn from. By providing scholarship opportunities for all senior high school graduates regardless of academic standing, Taguig LGU demonstrates its commitment to leveling the playing field.

This inclusive approach ensures that deserving students who may not have achieved top academic ranks still have the chance to pursue higher education. It acknowledges the potential of every student and believes in empowering them through education.

A significant difference between Taguig and Makati’s scholarship programs lies in their eligibility criteria. While Taguig offers scholarships to all senior high school graduates, Makati imposes a more stringent requirement.

Scholarship applicants in Makati must be part of the top 10% of their graduating class and commit to serving the city for at least two years. While the intention behind this criterion may be noble, it inadvertently limits the number of students who can access the scholarship, potentially leaving behind talented individuals who fall outside the top percentile.

Taguig LGU’s commitment to providing financial support to students, ranging from P15,000 to P50,000 per year, depending on the type of scholarship, paves the way for equal opportunities for success. This financial assistance can significantly alleviate the burden of tuition and other fees and help students pursue their academic aspirations without the added stress of financial constraints. By investing in the education of its youth, Taguig demonstrates its dedication to fostering a generation of well-educated and empowered individuals who can contribute to society positively.

By integrating these barangays into its governance structure, Taguig LGU opens the doors for infrastructure development, social services, and other essential programs that can uplift the quality of life for residents. This inclusivity sends a powerful message of unity and solidarity, fostering a sense of belonging among the affected communities.

Taguig’s approach to community development sets a precedent for fostering unity and addressing the needs of all residents, regardless of their previous jurisdiction. As the program unfolds, it is our hope that this will pave the way for a brighter future for these formerly disputed barangays and inspire other local government units to adopt similar measures of inclusivity and equal opportunity.
