Pagasa assures no water lack; Angat Dam level 15 meters above normal

MANILA, Philippines – The water level at Angat Dam, Metro Manila’s main reservoir, remains normal despite the onslaught of the summer heat in the country, the hydrometeorological division of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday.

The assurance came from the agency’s chief, Susan Espinueva, in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990 AM amid speculations of water shortage due to abnormal use of water by the populace to beat the heat.

Soaring temperatures are predicted to scorch across Luzon due to a ridge of a high pressure area, or clear skies, state weather forecasters said Friday.

On Pagasa’s extended weather outlook, temperature in Metro Manila could rise to 35 degrees over the weekend, and a scorching 36 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

As temperature rises, the Department of Health (DoH) has urged the public to drink plenty of water and take a shower often which will greatly contribute to the high consumption of water this summer.

“Although water is dropping 20 cm daily, we consider this still normal during dry season and there’s nothing to worry about. Water level is still 15 meters above normal level,” Espinueva said.

She assured that no water shortage will happen as the onset of the rainy season will be early.

“We have enough water to last until July,” she said.
