Police nab gun-runner in Davao del Sur
DIGOS CITY, Philippines—Police announced Thursday the arrest of a suspected leader of a gun-running syndicate in the province during a buy-bust operation in Sta. Cruz town the previous day.
Senior Inspector Francis Sonza, commander of the police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the province, said Brando Medillo Diaya, 30, was collared inside the Sta. Cruz Overland Transport Terminal as he was handing over four Magnum .357 revolvers to a police agent who posed as a buyer.
Sonza said the arrest of the suspect provided boosted the CIDG’s ‘Oplan Paglalansag Omega,’ which aims to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province.
He said the suspected gun-running syndicate leader was under CIDG custody and had been charged with violation of R.A. 8294, or illegal possession of firearms, at the provincial prosecutor’s office.
