Dead body of crew from capsized fishing boat recovered in Davao Oriental
DAVAO CITY — Another dead body from the fishing boat that capsized at sea off Baganga town, Davao Oriental had been found on Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Saturday.
Search operations continue for the remaining six fishermen as the third body from the sunken F/B Genesis 2 was fished out from the waters off Davao Oriental at around 8:30 a.m., the PCG said.
The 138-ton vessel owned by a fishing company based in General Santos City with a crew of 23 sank as it encountered big waves and strong winds in the Philippine Sea some 182 nautical miles (337 kilometers) from the coast of Baganga at around 1 a.m. on Thursday.
Fourteen crewmen were rescued by fishing boats that came to aid the distressed trawler, the PCG said.
A Coast Guard patrol ship, BRP Tubbataha, has been deployed to help find the remaining missing crewmen.
Some 20 fishing vessels, including those from the owner of Genesis 2, have joined in scouring the vast Pacific waters in looking for and saving the missing crewmen, said Apprentice Seaman Sherwin Casumbal of PCG Davao Oriental.
