Makati, Taguig tug-of-war over BGC resumes
MANILA, Philippines — Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano on Tuesday asked the Third Division of the Supreme Court to sanction Makati Mayor Abby Binay for claiming that the territorial dispute case between their cities over Bonifacio Global City and nearby barangays had been reopened.
In an “extremely urgent” petition before the high tribunal, Cayetano cited Binay’s recent interview in which she claimed she had received a document setting the hearing for the case.
According to Cayetano, Binay’s statement came after one of the barangays involved in the territorial dispute claimed on social media that the case was not yet over since the Makati mayor had asked President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo to intercede.
Reached for comment, Makati City administrator Claro Certeza said that they had yet to receive a copy of the petition filed by Cayetano.
Replying on behalf of Binay who is currently in London, Certeza questioned the credibility of the social media posts cited by Cayetano in her petition, saying that these made “outrageous and irresponsible” allegations against Marcos, his wife, and Gesmundo.
