Palace hails conviction of carjack ring leader

MANILA, Philippines – The Palace welcomed on Tuesday the conviction of carjack ring leader Raymond Dominguez, lauding the “impartiality” and “swiftness” of the decision made by a regional trial court judge in Bulacan who sentenced him to jail from 17 to 30 years.

“Judge Wilfredo Nieves of RTC branch 84 handed down the decision with impartiality and swiftness, taking only a year and four months to resolve the case,” President Benigno Aquino III’s spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, said in a statement.

“We congratulate public prosecutor Maureen Abad Moises for her capable handling of the case. Its resolution proves that with honest and committed public servants, our judicial system can work effectively toward fulfilling its duties to the public,” Lacierda said.

Dominguez, said to be a leader with his brother Roger of a carjack ring, is also facing charges for the killing of car dealers Venson Evangelista and Emerson Lozano.
