Pagasa: Cloudy skies, rain in Palawan due to ‘habagat’; fair weather in rest of PH
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or habagat will bring cloudy skies and rainfall to Palawan and the Kalayaan Islands on Tuesday, but for most of the Philippines, it’ll be a clear day.
Thunderstorms are expected to hit some areas of Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“Inaasahan pa rin ang maulap na kalangitan na may mga kalat-kalat na pagulan at pagkidlat sa may bahagi ng Palawan kasama na ang Kalayaan Islands na dala ng habagat,” said weather specialist Daniel James Villamil in Pagasa’s latest forecast.
(Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are still expected in parts of Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands brought by the southwest monsoon.)
“Sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon kasama ang Metro Manila, mas maaliwalas na panahon ang inaasahan, generally fair weather conditions na may tiyansa ng biglaan at panandaliang buhos ng ulan na dala ng thunderstorms pagdating ng hapon hanggang sa gabi,” he added.
(In the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, generally, fair weather is forecast with the possibility of sudden and brief downpours brought by thunderstorms in the afternoon until the evening.)
Villamil said thunderstorms would be more prevalent in the Ilocos Region, the western section of Luzon, and the western section of Southern Luzon and Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, generally fair weather will likewise prevail over Visayas and Mindanao, along with the chances of rain due to thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
2 LPAs being monitored
On the other hand, two low-pressure areas (LPA) are still being monitored by Pagasa but currently have no direct effects on the country.
“Sa kasalukuyan ang mga LPA na ito ay walang direktang epekto sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” said Villamil.
(Presently, these LPAs do not directly impact any part of our country.)
The first one was last spotted within the Philippine area of responsibility 970 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas and is expected to strengthen into a Tropical Depression in the next 24 to 48 hours.
“Gagalaw ito generally northwestward o pahilagang kanluran papunta dito sa Northern Luzon area at tiyaka ito mag recurve papunta sa ating bansa generally northeastward,” said Villamil.
(It will move generally northwestward or northwest towards the Northern Luzon area and recurve towards our country generally northeastward.)
The second LPA was last spotted 910 kilometers west of Northern Luzon and had a low chance of escalating into a storm.
Despite the presence of two LPAs and the effects of the southwest monsoon, no gale warning is also currently raised as only slight to moderate sea conditions are expected throughout the country’s in-land seas and surrounding seaboards.
Pagasa said the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Tuesday will be as follows:
- Metro Manila: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Baguio City: 17 to 24 degrees Celsius
- Laoag City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Tuguegarao: 26 to 35 degrees Celsius
- Legazpi City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Tagaytay: 22 to 30 degrees Celsius
- Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Iloilo City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Cebu: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Tacloban City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Cagayan De Oro City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Zamboanga City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Davao City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
