Abra suspends gov’t work, classes due to storm Betty
BAGUIO – Work in government offices in the province of Abra was suspended on Thursday (June 1) due to heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Betty (international name: Mawar).
Acting Gov. Russell Bragas said the suspension covered public offices while classes at all levels in public and private schools remain suspended.
In an advisory on Wednesday, schools were required to “shift to appropriate alternative delivery modes for learning continuity.”
Government offices involved in critical emergency service and disaster risk reduction are exempted from the suspension.
Meanwhile, the suspension of work for private offices is at the discretion of the respective office heads.
As of 4 a.m, Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the center of Betty was spotted some 505 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.
