San Beda, NU nip separate opponents
THE SAN BEDA Red Lions and the National University Bulldogs emerged triumphant over their respective opponents during the opening game day of the 2012 Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup last Saturday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions gave brand-new head coach Ronnie Magsanoc his first win at the helm of the defending NCAA champions after they beat the La Salle Green Archers, 69-63. It was a game that was controlled by San Beda until the final minute when the Archers threatened at 63-67.
However, the Red Lions shut the door on La Salle’s comeback attempt with two free-throws by guard, Anjo Caram. Caram led San Beda with 15 points while Julius Armon had 11 markers and Ola Adeogun added 10 points and 13 boards.
La Salle got 12 points and 10 rebounds from big man, Norbert Torres. Former Cesafi juniors MVP Mark Jayven Tallo got to play in the fourth period and had three points and two assists.
Meanwhile, the National University Bulldogs demolished the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 99-48, thanks to 22 points and 13 boards from Emmanuel Mbe. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
