CAAP, airports bracing for Typhoon Mawar

MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Wednesday said that it is currently implementing precautionary measures as Typhoon Mawar approaches the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Ina statement, CAAP said airports within the possible path of Mawar in the Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley have already conducted pre-typhoon coordination meetings and assessments.

It also committed to distributing Help Kits to affected travelers should the need arise.

Meanwhile, CAAP – Tacloban conducted a regular in-airport incident drill on May 23 as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure readiness during untoward incidents.

The drill allows airport personnel to practice and evaluate their response strategies, coordination, and communication procedures in simulated emergency situations.

The state weather bureau on Wednesday downgraded Mawar from a super typhoon to a typhoon which is expected to enter PAR by Friday or Saturday.
