Classes in 4 Quezon town schools canceled due to bomb scare

LUCENA CITY — Classes in at least four schools in Mulanay town in Quezon province were canceled on Monday, May 21, after a bomb threat was posted on social media on Sunday.

Mayor Aristotle Aguirre canceled classes in Sta. Rosa Elementary School, Mulanay Central Elementary School, Bondoc Peninsula Agricultural High School, and PUP-Mulanay.

Aguirre said he immediately ordered the local police chief to conduct a thorough inspection of these schools.

He appealed to the public to stay calm and continue getting updates from legitimate social media pages of the local government.

The bomb threat was posted by one “Ka Tonyo” on his newly created Facebook account on Sunday.

In the Visayan dialect, he claimed that he turned back on his group after he learned of their plan to bomb the schools.

He urged the school authorities not to ignore his warning.

Police Major Marlon Comia, Mulanay police chief, described “Ka Tonyo” Facebook account as “bogus.”

“But we still inspect every corner of the schools. There were no planted bombs,” he said in a phone interview on Sunday night.

Still, Comia said he requested the assistance of the police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to conduct another inspection of the school and its premises.

The police were conducting an investigation to determine the culprits behind the bomb scare. INQ
