  • 74-year-old Charles will be formally crowned as the British monarch on Saturday.
  • The ceremony will be held at 11 am (6 pm Manila time) at Westminster Abbey.
  • Charles’ second wife Camilla, whom he married in 2005, will also be separately crowned queen during the ceremony.

SYDNEY — Australia and New Zealand on Sunday celebrated the coronation of King Charles III with 21-gun salutes in their capitals, after the countries’ leaders, both republicans, attended the coronation ceremony in London.

King Charles is head of state in Australia, New Zealand and 12 other Commonwealth realms outside the United Kingdom, although the role is largely ceremonial.

LONDON — Police arrested the leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic and 51 others at King Charles’s coronation on Saturday, saying their duty to prevent disruption outweighed the right to protest.

Hundreds of yellow-clad demonstrators gathered among the 10-deep crowds lining the procession route in central London to stand out from those clad in red, white, and blue, and to hold up signs saying “Not My King.”

LONDON — Charles III on Saturday was crowned monarch of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms after a lifetime as heir apparent to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Before a congregation of about 100 world leaders and a television audience of millions, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby — the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church — placed the 360-year-old St. Edward’s Crown on Charles’ head as the monarch sat upon a 14th-century throne in Westminster Abbey.

WASHINGTON, United States — US President Joe Biden congratulated King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their coronation Saturday, May 6, paying tribute to the “enduring friendship between the U.S. and the U.K.”

LONDON — The coronation of Britain’s King Charles next month will be released as an album, the first time a recording of such a historic ceremony will be available to audiences worldwide.

In a statement on Friday, label Decca Records said it would record the May 6 service at Westminster Abbey, as well as pre-service music, as “The Official Album of the Coronation” and release it for streaming and download on the same day.

LONDON — The historic Stone of Scone, the ancient coronation stone upon which monarchs in Britain have been crowned for centuries, has left Scotland for London under tight security ahead of next week’s coronation of King Charles III, officials said on Friday.

Also known as the Stone of Destiny and regarded as a sacred, historic symbol of Scotland’s monarchy and nationhood, it is being moved from its permanent home at Edinburgh Castle for the first time in more than 25 years, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) said.
