At least four passengers sustained minor injuries on Wednesday morning after the emergency brake of a defective Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) that was approaching Boni station in Mandaluyong City. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the automatic train protection system of the train activated the emergency brake at 9:08 a.m. The four injured passengers were provided with first aid by emergency medical technicians. Assistant Transportation Secretary Jorjette Aquino apologized to the affected passengers for the inconvenience brought about by the incident. Meanwhile, all rail systems of the DOTr had been ordered to ramp up their safety measures amid the rising cases of COVID-19. In a separate statement, Aquino told the operators of Metro Manila’s train lines to strictly implement the mandatory wearing of face masks in all trains and stations amid a surge in COVID-19 cases. —JANE BAUTISTA
