PCG rescues 4 crew of submerged tugboat
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday said it had rescued four crew members of a tugboat that submerged in Surigao del Norte.
PCG rescued the crew of MTUG Surigao Strait, which submerged in the vicinity waters off Berth 1, Surigao Base Port on Tuesday.
“The PCG Station Surigao Del Norte received a phone call regarding MTUG Surigao Strait that submerged while assisting MV Span Asia 33 for its undocking maneuver,” the PCG said in a statement.
Search and rescue teams proceeded to the area and rescued the individuals, who were allowed to go home after being found to be in good condition.
Meanwhile, the PCG’s Special Operations Group conducted an underwater inspection for a possible oil spill, which yielded a negative result.—Maria Liezl Projella, INQUIRER.net trainee
