Probe of mental hospital’s ‘sorry’ state sought

Sen. Raffy Tulfo has called for a Senate inquiry into the “heartbreaking” state of the country’s premier mental health institution, which has supposedly led to the neglect of its patients. Tulfo filed Senate Resolution No. 562, which directed the Senate committee on health to conduct an inquiry into the condition of the facilities of the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City, supposedly caused by alleged corruption by its management. “It’s sad to see the pathetic condition of some patients at NCMH in Mandaluyong. One with a weak stomach will definitely vomit from the stench of their ward, which was worse than the stench in a pig pen,” he said in Filipino. Tulfo said Pavilion 8 or the Female Ward reeked of feces and urine.
