Cesafi teams take on NCAA, UAAP squads

TWO TEAMS from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. will battle two squads from Manila’s NCAA in a preseason tournament on May 9 to 12 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The NCAA squads coming over to test the mettle of the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras and the nine-time Cesafi champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers are the College of St. Benilde Blazers and the Mapua Cardinals.

The Cobras are expected to miss the upcoming Cesafi Partner’s Cup and will use this tournament to gauge their preparation for the Cesafi season, especially with a revamped lineup.

UV, on the other hand, hopes to strengthen their cohesion with a tried and tested core led by Phil Mercader, John Abad, Jerome Silva and Andrew Avillanoza.

The following week, UAAP runner-up Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers of head coach Vergel Meneses will visit town and compete with the same Cesafi teams. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
