Man drowns in Liloan; boy found floating in Talisay
THE body of a 20-year-old student who jumped off a bridge for fun on Easter Sunday was fished out of the water yesterday in Liloan town, north Cebu.
Jovani Ho, a University of Cebu student, was discovered floating dead by a fisherman in Silot Bay at 6:25 a.m.
He had been missing for 15 hours.
In Talisay City, a 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning in the beach.
Both accidents took place on Easter Sunday outings.
Police investigation showed that Ho was at a family gathering on Easter Sunday at Pilapil’s Park resort in the poblacion of Liloan. The resort has a nearby bridge where people jump off for fun.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice said that at 3:40 p.m., Ho, who was intoxicated at the time, dived from the Catarman Bridge with other children.
Article continues after this advertisementHe was seen waving his hands in the air as if asking for help as soon as he hit the water. He then submerged.
Liloan Coast Guard members and scuba divers conducted a search and rescue operation until t 2 a.m. but couldn’t find him.
The victim’s parents were informed of the discovery of the student’s remains.
In Talisay City, south Cebu, 10-year-old Judel Sayson was found floating unconscious in the beach water.
The boy, the son of a tricycle driver, was found by lifeguards after he went off swimming by himself.
Judel, a resident of barangay Maghaway, Talisay City, was rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital and later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Doctors said he was still in unstable condition.
The boy had gone with his uncle Jimmy Abellanosa to an outing with neighbors at the Coco Maldita Beach Resort.
His mother had given her permission to join the outing, said police.
The group arrived at the beach at 10 a.m. Police said they suspect the boy went swimming while his uncle was busy preparing their lunch.
At noon, when Abellanosa looked for the boy, he couldn’t find him. A four-hour search ended with lifeguards finding the boy floating near the beach.
