PH logs 913 COVID infections from Feb. 27 to March 5

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 913 infections of COVID-19 were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) from Feb. 27 to March 5, which is higher than the registered number the previous week which was only 832.

Based on the DOH’s latest weekly COVID-19 bulletin, these infections translated to a daily average of 130 cases, ten percent higher than the 119 daily average recorded from Feb. 20 to 26.

Despite the higher number of infections, no new infections were tagged as critical or severe, with active critical or severe COVID-19 admissions at 395.

Fewer deaths were also added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll during this week at 56 — from the previous week’s 78 — but more deaths were recorded in the last two weeks at 6 compared to two from the Feb. 20 to 26.

The rest of the deaths, on the other hand, were backlogs recorded as early as November 2020.

The utilization of ICU beds also slightly decreased from 13.5 to 13.3 percent, while non-ICU bed utilization rate decreased from 17.9 to 16.8 percent.

In terms of vaccination progress, a total of 73,889,558 individuals have been fully vaccinated with the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines, with only 3,728 individuals newly-vaccinated.

A total of 21,577,728, meanwhile, have been vaccinated with their booster shots, after 40,238 received the shots last week.

Based on DOH’s online tracker, the country’s total COVID-19 caseload is currently at 4,077,002, as of March 5, with 4,001,906 recoveries and 66,153 deaths.

Meanwhile, active cases are currently at 8,943.
