Marcos Jr. appoints critic Randy David’s son to DENR post
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed the son of his critic Randy David to a post in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Marcos has named Carlos Primo David as undersecretary of the DENR, according to an appointment document dated December 28, 2022, but revealed to the media on Tuesday.
Before his appointment, the younger David served as the program convenor and trustee of the Albert del Rosario Institute (ADRi) and the convenor of the Philippine Business for Environmental Stewardship.
He is also a professor at the National Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, with a doctorate in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Randy David, a journalist, and sociologist, is known to be a critic of Marcos and supported the presidency of the latter’s rival in the 2022 elections, then Vice President Leni Robredo.
