MANILA, Philippines — While some are still looking for their date this Valentine’s Day, local government employees in this Quezon town who are single might as well render their duty on February 14 as their mayor pledges to pay them up to triple their daily salary for that day.

Matt Florido, the mayor of Quezon town General Luna, announced in a flag ceremony on Monday that city hall employees present on February 14 will receive “triple pay” if they have been single for more than five years, while other single employees will receive “double pay.”

Florido said those who will render leave next Monday, February 13, would still have a “leave with pay.”

Qualified employees could submit their applications to the Mayor’s Office, where a special committee could validate the relationship status of employees.

Florido said he will personally shoulder the amount and would not be from the coffers of the local government.
