Pagasa: Cloudy Friday with a chance of rain

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rain showers are expected in parts of the country on Friday due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Rainfall is expected in parts of southern and northern Luzon, as well as the Visayas, Pagasa reported.

A possible low-pressure area may also form outside then Philippine area of responsibility and may likewise trigger rains in Mindanao.

“Hanggang sa weekend po ay wala po tayong inaasahang bagyo na papasok sa ating Philippine area of responsibility, subalit posibleng may mabuong low pressure area sa labas ng PAR at yung trough o yung extension nito ay posibleng magpa-ulan as early as Sunday dito sa eastern Mindanao, and for the entire Mindanao, simula po ng Lunes,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estreja. 

(No tropical cyclones is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility until the weekend. There is a possibility, however, that a low pressure area may form outside of PAR, and its trough or extension may trigger rain in Eastern Mindanao, and for the entire Mindanao, starting Monday).

The shear line, or the area where hot and cold winds meet, will bring cloudy skies and rain to the Bicol region, Romblon, and Northern Samar.

The northeast monsoon will likewise trigger rain in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Marinduque, according to Pagasa.

Pagasa added that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are also affected by the northeast monsoon but with “no significant impact”. 

Pagasa also raised gale warnings over the following areas: Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Northern Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay, eastern coast of Sorsogon, northern and eastern coasts of Samar.

Fishermen, crewmen and operators of small vessels are advised against setting sail due to rough seas and waves 2.8 to 4.5 meters high.

  • Metro Manila: 23 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 15 to 25 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  23 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 21 to 26 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 24 to 28 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 26 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 20 to 28 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 25 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 25 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
