DPWH promise: Metro commute easing soon

The connection between the South Luzon and North Luzon expressways will further improve with the opening of a flyover crossing Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson said on Monday.

Singson led the drive-through inspection and partial opening of the northbound lane of the 490-lineal meter flyover that connects Tandang Sora/Damayan Alley to Luzon Avenue.

“(Its opening) will further encourage motorists from North Luzon Expressway or South Luzon Expressway to skip the horrendous traffic on Edsa by taking the convenient route of C-5 and NLEx-Mindanao Avenue link,” Singson said.

He said the 18-meter wide bridge, which was constructed at a cost of P570 million, would be “a vital component” of the C-5 Extension Project since it would connect Luzon Avenue to C-5/Katipunan Avenue.

Singson also inspected a stretch of Marcos Highway from Evangelista Street in Marikina City to Masinag, Antipolo City in Rizal, which he said was undergoing improvements.

The 4.7-km road improvement on Marcos Highway will benefit motorists in eastern Metro Manila not only by decongesting traffic but also mitigating floods in the area, Singson said.

The project will help control the flow of rainwater from Cainta and Antipolo City down to the Marikina River, he added.

Singson said the project also adopted environment-friendly measures, such as having two-meter wide bike lanes, a one-meter wide planting strip, landscape work for greenery, and retaining wall structures.
