Non-stop rains due to LPA continue to affect Eastern Visayas

Non-stop rains continue to affect several parts of Eastern Visayas due to a low pressure area on Thursday.

TACLOBAN CITY — Non-stop rains will continue to affect several parts of Eastern Visayas due to a low-pressure area on Thursday.

In Northern Samar, flooding incidents were reported in the towns of San Roque and San Isidro, resulting in the suspension of classes.

A gale warning was also raised by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, reminding fishermen using small sea crafts, particularly, not to venture to the seas amid the turbulent weather.

At least two fishermen from Northern Samar died, while seven others remained missing since Christmas Day.

In Eastern Samar, a landslide was reported in Barangay Siha, Borongan City, due to the constant rain. Flooding was reported in Quinapondan, particularly in the villages within the town proper.

In Salcedo town, also in the same province, a landslide hit a resettlement site on Wednesday morning.

Gov. Ben Evardone made an ocular inspection in the area and vowed to help the affected families.

While the landslide damaged only one unoccupied structure at the Salcedo Ville, 37 families whose housing units were located near the incident area were evacuated to a safer place in the same resettlement site which is more than five km away from the town center.
