DOH logs 3,458 COVID-19 cases from December 26 to January 1

DOH tallies 3,458 COVID-19 cases from December 26 to January 1

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 3,458 COVID-19 cases from December 26 to January 1, bringing the average daily cases to 494, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

According to the DOH, the 3,458 recorded COVID-19 cases were 39 percent lower compared to the cases from December 19 to 25. This was despite the increased mobility among people due to holiday season parties and travels.

“Mula Disyembre 26 hanggang Enero 1, 3,458 na bagong kaso ang naitala sa bansa. Ang average na bilang ng bagong kaso kada araw ngayong linggo ay nasa 494, mas mababa ng 39 percent kung ikukumpara sa mga kaso noong Disyembre 19 hanggang 25,” DOH said.

(From December 26 to January 1, 3,458 new cases were recorded in the country. The average number of new cases per day is at 494, which is lower by 39 percent if compared to the cases from December 19 to 25.)

“Sa mga bagong kaso, 3 sa mga ito ang may malubha at kritikal na karamdaman. Samantala, mayroon namang naitalang 164 na pumanaw kung saan 32 ay naganap noong Disyembre 19 hanggang Enero 1,” it added.

(For the new cases, three are considered in severe and critical condition.  Meanwhile, 164 patients were recorded as deceased from COVID-19, of which 32 were from the time period of December 19 up to January 1.)

As of January 1, the the DOH has classified 433 COVID-19 cases as critical. Meanwhile, while 16.2 percent of the 2,155 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 cases are occupied.

“Samantala, 3,110(16.9%) ng 18,412 non-ICU COVID-19 beds naman ang kasalukuyan ding ginagamit,” DOH added.

(Meanwhile, 3,110 (16.9%) of the 18,412 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are currently being used.)

Even with the lower numbers, the DOH is urging Filipinos to remain vigilant and observe the minimum public health standards to ensure safety and to safeguard public health.

“Pinapaalalalahan ang lahat na huwag maging kampante sa banta ng COVID-19. Bagkus, dapat natin ipagpatuloy ang tamang pagsunod sa minimum public health standards sa ilalim ng Alert Level 1,” DOH said.

(Everyone is reminded not to be complacent about the dangers of COVID-19.  Instead, we should continue the observance of minimum public health standards placed under Alert Level 1.)

“Paalala ng Kagawaran ng Kalusugan na laging magsuot ng best-fitted face mask at kung maaari, manatili sa well-ventilated na mga lugar. Sa oras na makaramdam ng sintomas, agad na mag-isolate,” it added.

(The Department of Health reminds everyone to wear their best-fitted face mask and if possible, stay in well-ventilated areas.  By the time symptoms appear, possible patients should immediately isolate.)
