Bicolandia logs 25% increase in yearend firecracker-related injuries

DOH counts on heavy rain in Calabarzon to deter firecracker use

LEGAZPI CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a 25 percent increase in firecrackers and fireworks-related injuries in the Bicol region before the end of the year.

DOH said in a report on Sunday, Jan. 1, that a total of 15 cases were recorded from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1, 2023.

Only 12 cases were recorded over the same period last year.

Nine new cases were recorded during the New Year’s day festivities.

Six of the injuries were caused by “kwitis”, two were due to five star and one from improvised cannon (boga), mostly from Albay province.

Meanwhile, the Naga City police  also reported that a 64-year-old farmer also sustained a firecracker-related injury on Saturday night.
