A remarkable jump: DOH logs 5 new fireworks injuries, 52% more than last year
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday said five new fireworks-related injuries were reported in the country from December 29 to 30.
This brings the fireworks-related injuries to 41 from December 21 to 30, reported from 61 sentinel hospitals nationwide.
There were only 27 cases reported in the same period last year, making the present total 52 percent higher than in 2021.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged local government units to designate a common area for the fireworks display to reduce firecracker injuries.
According to the DOH, 128 firework-related injuries were recorded in 2021.
