P56.9 million misdeclared agricultural products from China seized in Subic port

Misdeclared agricultural products from China worth P56.9 million were seized by BOC in the Port of Subic.

MANILA, Philippines — Misdeclared agricultural products from China worth P56.9 million have been seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in the Port of Subic.

The bureau said in a statement Friday that the misdeclared products were carried by 44 containers that came from China and that the shipment arrived in Subic on December 5, 9, and 10.

Twenty of the containers were consigned to Victory JM while 24 were consigned to Asterzenmed Inc.

The port issued 17 alert orders and pre-lodgment orders against the two consignees’ shipments.

An initial report showed that five containers consigned to Asterzenmed Inc. that were declared to hold frozen shabu-shabu balls actually carried not just shabu-shabu balls but also frozen whole mackerel, boneless buffalo meat, boneless beef (anglo) which have an estimated value of P48.2 million.

The sane report also indicated that four containers consigned to Victory JM that were declared to hold bread actually carried fresh red onions, mantou, and soft French bread which have an estimated value of P8.7 million.

The remaining 35 containers are undergoing complete examination, the BOC said.

Consignees may face charges for violations of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Administrative Order No. 18 series of 2000, DA Department Circular No. 4 series of 2016, Department of Health-Food and Drug Administration Administrative Order No. 2020-0017, DA Administrative Order No. 9 series of 2010, and Section 117 in relation to Section 1113(f) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, the BOC added.
