USC captures U-19 title in Aboitiz Football Cup

The University of San Carlos (USC) earned the right to represent Cebu in the Visayas eliminations of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Under 19 after clinching the first ever men’s U19 title of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue.

USC, which was left with 10 men on the field, edged Don Bosco Technology Center, 1-0, for the title.

Joeford Dolino was sent out of the match after intentionally kicking a DBTC player just six minutes into the second half.

USC scored the game’s lone goal on a long shot from 30 yards by Koko Gaudiel.

In the fight for third place, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu prevailed over Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy, 4-2.

Scorers for the Magis Eagles were Nerry Vinson (21st, 73rd), Mark Mergar (61st) and Wilfred Villaver (84th).

ANS’ goals, on the other hand, were contributed by Alger Montayre in the 53rd minute and Reynald Amante a minute later.

Meanwhile, the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R)-manned Cebu team lost by a point to the visiting Iloilo Football Association (IFA), 0-1.

Cebu was playing in its first home match at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

IFA’s lone goal was scored by Vincent Blancada in the 64th minute.

With the win, the IFA has a chance to supplant Cebu at second place when it faces Leyte tomorrow.
