MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Coast Guard is not suspending major passenger shipping operations to and from Manila despite the bad weather affecting parts of the country.

“Since we have no typhoon signal, there are no suspensions of trips. But it’s up to our PCG districts and stations in the provinces, in coordination [with] local government units, to implement extra measures to keep our people safe, especially those on small boats and our fisherman,” PCG spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Algier Ricafrente told the Inquirer in a phone interview on Friday.

Ricafrente said authorities in areas with “zero visibility” due to heavy rains should not allow small boats to sail.
