LPA east of Visayas may brew into tropical depression by Wednesday afternoon
MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine area of responsibility may become a tropical depression by Wednesday afternoon, which will be named Paeng, said state meteorologists.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the LPA is currently 1,010 kilometers east of eastern Visayas.
“Base nga sa ating datos, makikita natin na posible po na maging isang bagyo o tropical depression itong low pressure area ngayong araw, at sakali nga pong maging bagyo ito, magiging pangalan niya ay Paeng,” said Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.
(Based on our data, we can see that it is possible that the low pressure area may develop into a ‘bagyo’ or tropical depression today, and if it does develop into a tropical depression, its name will be Paeng).
Badrina said that if the LPA develops into Paeng, it will likely travel the eastern section of Luzon. He added that Paeng may recurve and not make landfall, but there is still a possibility that it will make landfall somewhere in Visayas or central Luzon.

The northeast monsoon or amihan will also cause cloudy skies and rains in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Central Luzon and the Ilocos Region, said Pagasa.
Badrina said that due to the winds of amihan, a gale warning has been raised over the northern Luzon seaboard (Batanes, Cagayan and the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur), as well as the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon (Aurora, parts of Quezon, Camarines Norte and Catanduanes).
Areas affected by heavy rains are warned by Pagasa of possible flash floods and landslides.
