MANILA, Philippines — The National Unity Party (NUP) has expressed support for its vice chairperson, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, following the arrest of his son for alleged possession of over P1 million worth of kush or high-grade marijuana in Las Piñas City.

The NUP, in a statement on Friday, said it will continue to stand by Remulla “during this difficult period.”

The NUP also lauded Remulla for “promptly assuring authorities that he will not, in any way, interfere in or influence the case of his son.”

“We are assured of the fact that as a patriotic citizen and head of the Department of Justice (DOJ), he will always place the national interest above his personal ties. As a principled man, we know that Secretary Remulla will always uphold the rule of law. We know that he will let justice take its course,” it added.

The DOJ chief’s eldest son, Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, was arrested last Tuesday, October 11 by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group after receiving a parcel containing about 1 kilo of kush at a house in BF Resort Village.

In a handwritten statement released by the DOJ on Thursday, the Justice Secretary vowed to “respect the justice system” as he expressed hopes for his son’s “path to redemption.”

“I will not intervene in nor influence my son’s predicament, and I have not done so in any way,” he said.
