250 new COVID-19 cases added to weekly tally in Ilocos

Ilocos region logs 431 new COVID-19 cases in 1 week

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The Department of Health (DOH) in the Ilocos region on Tuesday (Sept. 27) reported 250 new COVID-19 cases to its tally between Sept. 18 and 24.

The figure reflected a daily average of 36 cases, which was 13.5 percent lower than the previous week’s cases.

At least two of the new cases were severe and critical.

The DOH also verified at least seven deaths due to the virus in the previous week.

As of Sept. 24, the healthcare utilization rate in the region remained at a “safe” level, with 40 of the 223 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients occupied.

At least 251 of the 1,414 non-ICU beds were occupied, the DOH added.

At least 3.8 million people, or 88 percent of the 4.3 million target population, had received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Of the 3.8 million, about 30 percent had received their first booster, the regional DOH data showed.

To encourage more residents to get their booster shots, the regional DOH said they would accommodate people at any vaccination site across the region.

The DOH said they were intensifying partnerships with non-government organizations, the private sector, and local governments to give incentives to vaccination teams and residents when they get vaccinated. INQ
