Trekking ban on Kanlaon lifted

BACOLOD CITY—Trekkers can now include Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park (MKNP) as their destination this Holy Week.

The Office of the Park Superintendent of MKNP has lifted the temporary ban on mountaineering activities in the area after its mountaineering trails had been declared passable and safe for trekkers.

Water sources at the camp sites were also undisturbed while the rock perimeter line were established at the rim of the volcano crater, said Park Superintendent Cecil Cañada.

Trekkers were banned from the park after cracks were monitored following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked Cebu and Negros islands on Feb. 6.

But after assessments in late February,  Cañada lifted the  ban. Carla P. Gomez, Inquirer Visayas
