DSWD distributes educational aid to 12,670 students in Eastern Visayas
TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that 12,670 students in Eastern Visayas have already received their one-time educational cash assistance.
Lawyer Jonalyndie Chua, DSWD regional information officer, said their office has already released P31.26 million to student-beneficiaries.
The DSWD central office allocated the region P90 million.
Of the 12,670 student-beneficiaries who have received financial cash assistance, 4,229 are in the elementary, 2,602 in the secondary level, 1,525 in the senior level, and 4,314 college students.
A student in the elementary level receives P1,500; secondary, P2,000; senior, P3,000; and P4,000 for those in college.

Article continues after this advertisementChua said about 310,000 students in the region have applied for the educational cash assistance being offered by the DSWD.
“We plan to complete the (disbursement) of funds within this month. Right now, we are still in the process of processing the remaining applicants,” Chua said in a phone interview.
She said that while they don’t monitor how the beneficiaries spend the money, they hoped they would spend it according to the purpose.
“We don’t monitor how they spend the money, but we remind them that it is for educational assistance,” Chua said.
