OCTA says weekly COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila down by 19%

MANILA, Philippines — The weekly average of new COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila dipped by 19 percent, while the current average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the region is now considered low, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said Tuesday.

He further detailed that new COVID-19 infections in the capital region decreased from 1,062 last August 22 to 862 as of August 29.

David also noted that the ADAR, reproduction number, and positivity rate in Metro Manila have similarly declined.

“NCR ADAR decreased to less than 6 or low. Reproduction number decreased from 0.99 to 0.95. The positivity rate decreased from 14.6 percent to 12.7 percent. Healthcare utilization rate remained low at 33 percent,” he said in a tweet.

In detail, the ADAR in Metro Manila is at 5.98 per 100,000 population, which is deemed low according to OCTA Research’s metrics.

According to David, the intensive care unit occupancy also stayed low at 25.8 percent.

The independent pandemic monitor earlier reported that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has declined to 12.9 percent over the weekend.
