‘Florita’ displaces over 200 families in Central Luzon

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—At least 245 families, or 956 persons, were displaced by Severe Tropical Storm “Florita” in Central Luzon, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office.

In a report on Wednesday, August 24, the DSWD said 199 of these families (850 people) remained in evacuation centers in Zambales, Tarlac, and Aurora.

At least 23 open evacuations are located in Central Luzon.

Citing data from its disaster response management division, the DSWD said 16,616 family food packs worth P8.2 million were available at its warehouses.

The agency said they received no reports of injuries, missing persons, or deaths related to the storm in the region.

Florita was outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

At 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Florita was located 335 kilometers west of Calayan town, Cagayan province. It sustained winds of 95 km per hour (kph), gusts of 115 kph, and was moving west-northwestward at 30 kph. INQ
