Businesswoman gunned down in Leyte
ORMOC CITY — A businesswoman was gunned down by still unidentified assailants on board a motorcycle along the National Highway in Barangay Palali 1, MacArthur town, Leyte on Tuesday morning (August 23).
Eufemia Piga, 71, who owned the Mia Bus Lines and buildings in Tacloban City, was attending to workers cutting grasses in a rice field she owned when a motorcycle emerged in the area, said Major Romeo Sudario, chief of the Macarthur town police.
Witnesses said the backrider disembarked from the motorcycle and shot the victim twice. The perpetrators, he said, fled towards Javier town, Leyte.
Sudario said they immediately enforced checkpoints on all roads leading to Javier and Mayorga towns in Leyte but failed to arrest the assailants.
The local police have conducted a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and the motive behind the killing.
