Arroyo bail hearings at Veterans

MANILA, Philippines—Police said they are in favor of holding the bail hearings of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.

Chief Supt. Mario de la Vega, QC police district director, said the move will be beneficial to all concern parties.

“With that scenario, security concerns would be contained in one area…(it would be) easier,” De la Vega said.

Arroyo, who suffers from a bone disorder, is on hospital arrest at the VMMC while facing charges of electoral sabotage. She was also recently charged with violation of anti-graft laws.

The police officer made the statement when asked to comment of the reported proposal to hold Arroyo’s bail hearings inside the VMMC complex.

Reports said the prosecution in the graft case before the Sandiganbayan was agreeable to holding the bail proceedings at the hospital.
