Cuenco prepares for polls

FORMER Cebu City Representative Antonio Cuenco is preparing for a tough fight in the coming elections.

He described his opponents in the south district as “all worthy candidates.”

Cuenco, now the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Secretary-General, said he must campaign hard in order to win back the seat he left after his term expired in 2010.

He has declared his alliance with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama after the Bando Osmena-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) “closed its door for him.”

BO-PK is reportedly considering three possible candidates for the third district, including Councilor Margot Osmeña, former transportation and communication undersecretary Aristotle Batuhan and Councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa. /Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan

HER presence in the Liberal Party event in Cordova town last week has no political color.

Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said she attended the meeting because PB Member Arleigh Sitoy invited her and she saw nothing wrong with her wearing a  yellow shirt with the line “Kuyog ta bisan dili ta kauban” printed on it.

“I thought it was safe to go. We are not party mates because we are both not members of the Liberal party but together we will serve Cordova,” she told reporters.

Her presence in the event reinforced speculations that she will be running under LP in the 2013 elections.

Magpale said that she still had no final plans for the next elections. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
