DOH logs 2,618 COVID-19 infections amid low tests conducted

The DOH logged an additional 2,618 new infections of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with active tally slightly decreasing to 36,666.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) logged an additional 2,618 new infections of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with the active tally slightly decreasing to 36,666.

These new cases raised the country’s total caseload to 3,810,772 nationwide, with 3,713,242 recoveries and 60,864 deaths, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website.

This is significantly lower than the average daily cases recorded from August 1 to August 7 at 3,904.

It should be noted, however, that these new cases reflect the number of tests conducted on August 7, Sunday, at only 14,122, which is significantly lower than the average tests conducted, which are usually above 20,000.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila continued to record the highest number of infections per region, by a large margin, in the last two weeks with 15,986 cases, followed by Calabarzon at 10,361, then by Central Luzon at 5,190.

Cavite also continued to top the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 3,493, followed by Quezon City, which recorded 3,447 and Laguna, with 3,018.

Meanwhile, the tracker showed that on Monday, 22,347 individuals were tested for COVID-19. This will reflect the number of cases recorded on Wednesday.
