Avenido scores 33 as Beermen win
HOTSHOT WINGMAN Leo Avenido bounced back from his sub-par performance in the last game as he scored a game-high 33 points to lead the San Miguel Beermen to an 86-78 win over the Bangkok Cobras in the Asean Basketball League yesterday at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
Avenido managed just nine points on a horrid 4-of-12 shooting in their 75-65 win over the Singapore Slingers earlier this week.
He erased all the memories of that terrible shooting performance by hitting the big shots for the Beermen, who now are a half-a-game behind the league-leading Philippine Patriots. San Miguel is now at 10-3 (win-loss) while the Patriots are at 10-2.
The Beermen led all the way but had to scramble down the stretch to preserve their victory. They led, 23-18, after the first and extended their advantage to six, 43-33, at halftime with Avenido and import Dalron Johnson doing the heavy lifting on scoring by combining for 32 in that stretch./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
