Magnitude 4.6 quake rocks Eastern Samar

Phivolcs – Eastern Samar quake

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.6-magnitude earthquake shook Eastern Samar on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake that has a depth of 28 kilometers struck 18 kilometers southwest of Hernani town at around 10 a.m., Phivolcs said in its bulletin.

It also said that the temblor was felt in the towns of Hernani and Llorente at Intensity IV, and Borongan City, Giporlos, Maydolong, Gen. MacArthur, Lawaan, Balangiga, and Quinapondan; Tacloban City and Dulag in Leyte;  and Basey, Marabut, and Sta. Rita in Samar at Intensity III.

FEATURED STORIES

The towns of Julita, Tanauan, Barugo, Palo, Pastrana, Alangalang and Abuyog in Leyte; and Salcedo and Sulat in Eastern Samar also felt the earthquake at Intensity II.

No damage or aftershocks could be expected from the earthquake, according to Phivolcs.
