Barrios meets with Baumann in Geneva

SAMAHANG BASKETBOL ng Pilipinas executive director Renauld “Sonny” Barrios recently flew for Geneva, Switzerland to attend a meeting set by FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann regarding the next phase of discussions about the new system that will preside over world basketball tournaments.

Barrios, former commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association, and SBP consultant Mauricio ‘Moying’ Martelino were in Geneva to attend a policy formulation meeting and had a chance to trade ideas with the Swiss-based Baumann and other high-ranking FIBA officials.

A window to discuss the Philippines’ bid to host the Asian qualifier for the 2014 World Championship could open during the meeting with Baumann, said Barrios.

Meanwhile, FIBA has announced during a recent launching in Madrid that the World Championships will be known as the FIBA World Cup. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
