Rising dengue cases spur PRC appeal for blood

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) encouraged healthy individuals on Thursday to donate blood regularly amid the rise in dengue cases in the country.

The PRC made the call even though they had a sufficient blood supply.

“Sa dumadaming kaso ng dengue sa ating bansa, tinitiyak natin na laging sapat ang suplay ng dugo sa Red Cross para sa mga kababayan natin na nangangailangan nito,” PRC Chairman Richard Gordon said in a statement.

Gordon said blood donors may walk into their 102 PRC facilities across the country.

The PRC likewise established strategic partnerships with private and public firms to hold its Mobile Blood Donation to make blood transfusion accessible for citizens from different communities.

The Department of Health reported over 60,000 dengue cases from the start of the year until June 25, 90 percent higher than the same period in 2021.
