Pasay requires CCTV cams in some shops

The Pasay City Council has passed an ordinance that requires certain types of business establishments to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras as an anticrime measure.

The ordinance, authored by Councilors Arvin Tolentino and Mary Grace Santos, orders all pawnshops, money changers, remittance or courier service outlets, and gasoline stations in Pasay to put up CCTV cameras within three months after its enactment.

“The CCTV has been instrumental in the solution of many crimes both here and abroad.

Pasay’s new policy is in line with our peace and order campaign with emphasis on deterring crimes like burglary, theft and even kidnapping,” Mayor Antonino Calixto said.
The mayor instructed the city’s business permits and licensing office to start making the rounds to check on the compliance of the concerned business outlets.

Failure to heed the new policy may result in the suspension or revocation of the establishment’s permits and a P1,000 fine for every day of noncompliance.

The ordinance also requires the shops to keep all camera records for a year. Miko Morelos
