COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila are peaking or have already peaked — OCTA Research

MANILA, Philippines — The rise of COVID-19 infections in Metro Manila “may be close to peaking or may have already peaked,” said OCTA Research fellow Guido David on Tuesday.

“The COVID-19 wave in the NCR may be close to peaking (or may have already peaked), based on a slowing of the growth rate to 32%,” said David in a social media post.

David also noted that the capital region’s reproduction number decreased from 1.59 to 1.47 on July 1.

“The indicators show a slowing down of the growth rate in cases and there is a chance that cases in the NCR are peaking or have already peaked,” David said.

“The trends should be clearer after a week,” he added.

Metro Manila’s average daily attack rate (ADAR) is currently at 4.93 per 100,000 individuals which translates to a seven-day average of 710 infections.

The  healthcare utilization rate in Metro Manila, meanwhile, increased to 28 percent, with 20 percent of COVID-19 intensive care units (ICU) occupied, David noted

OCTA Research on Monday reported that the country’s current positivity rate is now at 10.9 percent. The Department of Health (DOH), however, earlier pegged the positivity rate to be only at 9.5 percent.
