Fire razes houses in Tondo, causes P1M damage
MANILA, Philippines—Some P1-million worth of properties went up in smoke after fire gutted a residential area in Tondo, Manila early morning Friday.
Fire Officer2 Lords Hernandez, arson investigator of the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started 3:40 a.m. in a three story apartment owned by Christy Garma along Batangas corner Barrio Roxas Street near Abad Santos Street. He said the fire was caused by a “toppled candle”.
Injured were grandchildren of Christy Garma — Girlie Joy, 3 and Grace, 4 — and an unidentified man.
The fire quickly spread to 15 other adjacent houses made of semi-concrete materials.
The fire was declared out at 6 a.m.
