Divorce, equal use of languages among Robin Padilla's first Senate bills

MANILA,  Philippines — Neophyte Senator Robin Padilla has filed his first 10 priority measures, including a proposal on divorce and equal use of Filipino and English languages in all government issuances and documents.

“Naihain na po natin ang unang 10 prayoridad na panukalang batas sa Senado para sa ika-19 na Kongreso,” Padilla on Tuesday wrote on Facebook.

“Simula pa lamang po ito. Tututukan, aaralin at isusulong natin ang mga adbokasiya na tutugon sa samu’t saring isyu na malapit sa ating bituka – kasama rito ang mataas na presyo ng petrolyo, mga problema sa agrikultura at food security, at talamak na diskriminasyon.”

(This is just the beginning. Next, we will focus, study and push for our advocacies that will address the various issues directly affecting the masses, including the rising cost of fuel, the problems with agriculture and food security, and  the rampant discrimination.)

“Tuloy po ang ating pagsisigasig sa Senado bilang tugon sa mandato at tiwala ng sambayanang Pilipino!” he further said.

(We will continue to work  hard in the Senate in response to the mandate and trust  given to me by the Filipino people.)

Padilla then enumerated the following priority bills and issues:

  • The Equal Use of Languages Act
  • Suspension of Excise  Tax on fuel
  • Medical Cannabis Compassionate Access Act
  • Magna Carta of Barangay Health Workers
  • Equality and Non-Discrimination Act
  • Civil Service Eligibility  for casual and contractual government employees who have rendered at least 5  years of government service
  • Regionalization of Bilibid Prisons
  • Mandatory Reserve Officer’s Training Corps Act
  • Divorce Act of the Philippines

The divorce measure mentioned in the list was titled “An act providing for the dissolution of marriage.”
