Active COVID-19 cases breach 9,000 mark; Metro Manila has most new cases

Study says Duterte successor needs to change spending priorities

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 cases nationwide have surpassed 9,000, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

Based on DOH’s latest figures, the country registered an additional 1,302 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, raising the number of active infections to 9,105.

The country logged more than 1,000 new cases for three consecutive days since June 30.

The overall case count stands at 3,706,951.

Meanwhile, total COVID-19  recoveries and the death toll are at 3,637,268 and 60,578, respectively.

Metro Manila has most new cases

According to independent analytics group OCTA Research fellow Guido David, most of the fresh COVID-19 infections, or 625 cases, were recorded in Metro Manila.

Of the 625 new cases in the capital region, more than 100 were listed in Quezon City.

The following is the breakdown of cases in Metro Manila’s local government units:

Makati – 83 new cases

Manila – 83 new cases

Parañaque – 52 new cases

Pasig – 40 new cases

Pasay – 38 new cases

Las Piñas – 34 new cases

Mandaluyong – 34 new cases

Taguig – 29 new cases

Muntinlupa – 24 new cases

Marikina – 20 new cases

Caloocan – 14 new cases

San Juan City – 11 new cases

Valenzuela – 10 new cases

Malabon – 6 new cases

Navotas – 5 new cases

Pateros is the only local government unit in the capital region that did not record a new case.
