Suico sets ring comeback April 15
RANDY “Kumong Bato” Suico spent yesterday afternoon sparring with former Philippine lt.welterwieght titlist Eusebio Baluarte at the RWS Gym in Labangon to prepare for his return to the ring.
The 32 year-old Suico told CDN that he is scheduled to fight again in Japan for a non-title contest on April 15. Suico, a former national amateur boxing champion, has won Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) titles in three different weight divisions. He lost in his lone world title shot six years ago against Juan Diaz.
After his sparring session, Suico hit the heavy bag. His last fight here in Cebu was on Nov. 27, 2010 where he scored a majority decision win against Arnel Tinampay.
Also seen at the RWS Gym was former WBO superflyweight champion Marvin Sonsona, who had a light sparring session with Jayson Redondo. Sonsona, who trains at the Omega gym whenever he is in Cebu, was looking for more sparring partners.
Sonsona will face Carlos Fulgencio of the Dominican Republic at the Hoops Dome this Saturday. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
